Why Beauty Begins With How You Feel

Confidence, self-care and the difference a little comfort can make.

To me, beauty begins with how I feel on the inside.

If I’m in a happy mood, I naturally glow. Whereas if I’m feeling achy, it can drag me down, and it shows in my face.

I think that’s something we can forget when we talk about beauty. We spend so much time thinking about what we can put on, whether that’s clothes or makeup, that we can overlook how we’re actually feeling.

Sometimes, before we think about looking better, we need a little time to feel better.

My day begins with a bath

I love my baths with essential oils. I always start my day with a bath, soaking to soothe my aches so I can feel better during the day.

For me, that’s self-care. It isn’t about following a trend or trying to achieve a particular look. It’s something I enjoy that helps me feel more comfortable in myself.

Your small act of care might be quite different. It could be a quiet cup of tea, a little time outside, or choosing clothes that don’t pinch or pull. It doesn’t need to be elaborate to matter.

We don’t have to glow every day

Of course, we aren’t always going to feel happy or comfortable. Some days are harder than others.

I don’t think beauty should become another expectation we have to meet, especially when we’re already feeling sore or tired. We don’t need to pretend that everything is lovely.

But we can be kind to ourselves. We can notice what might make the day a little easier, rather than immediately finding fault with the face looking back at us in the mirror.

Clothes, makeup and perfume can all be lovely things to enjoy. They just don’t have to do all the work.

Sometimes the best place to begin is with a simple question:

**What would help me feel a little more comfortable in myself today?**
